The real question for someone getting started on Tinder is: Should I pay, and if so, what for?
While the average free user can do well on Tinder, we all want more matches. Tinder’s three tiers, Plus, Gold, and Platinum, provide different ways to get them.
So today, let’s break down all of the features that have been included in Tinder Plus (and subsequently Gold and Platinum) so you can make up your mind if Tinder Plus is worth it. I’ll also cover how you can get use it to get better quality matches that lead to good Tinder conversations.

Let’s take a closer look at these Tinder Plus features and find out if I think they’re worth the money.
Unlimited Swipes
In a nutshell, having unlimited swipes simply means you will never again see that annoying “you’re out of likes” and have to wait another 12 hours for more.
Like everything fun in life, unlimited likes come at a cost. In the free version, Tinder has limited how much you can swipe. Before we kick up a storm about this, trust me, it’s a good thing for everyone overall.
If every single one of those guys who swiped right on everyone, had unlimited right swipes, it would ruin it for everyone else.
Since Tinder introduced the limit on swipes, its results actually showed that people get more matches and more engagement.
That tells me that people aren’t so gun-ho when it comes to swiping and will take their time choosing someone they are way more likely to have a connection with, and eventually meet for an IRL date.
The better news? If you are someone that still wants to have unlimited swipes, you can fork out a little bit of cash each month for Tinder Plus (or Gold) and swipe till you can’t swipe anymore.
Unlimited Rewinds
Rewind allows you to undo your latest swipe. It’s mainly used for two reasons: You accidentally were going too fast and swiped left on someone who tickles your fancy. Now you can rewind that last swipe.
So instead of losing them to the dark abyss that is a left swipe, you will be able to rewind and swipe appropriately.

Alternatively, rewind can be used, when the last person you accidentally swiped right on, might not be your cup of tea.
If you’re not rapidly swiping through profiles like a madman, you shouldn’t have to use Rewind much!
Passport
With Tinder Passport, you can set your location to another area, city or country. It works well if you travel a lot, and can even be used to help set up dates ahead of time.
When I used Passport the last time I was traveling, I set it to the next city I would be visiting.
It definitely allowed me to start talking to some awesome people in the next city I was going to, but at the same time, I was met with a bit more skepticism and therefore had fewer matches than if I just waited until I arrived there.
This is because the people viewing your profile might question whether or not you are actually coming to their area. Sometimes people “window shop” different locations with no intention of coming.
If your potential match has witnessed anything like this before, it might ruin your chances of getting a match.
If you do decide to use Passport ahead of time, I would suggest explaining in your bio, when you are planning on coming to the city.
Control Your Profile
Tinder Plus gives you more control over your profile, allowing you to hide your age and distance from your potential matches.
- Hide Distance
For whatever reason, you can hide your distance from your potential match.
Tinder shows anyone who comes across your profile, how far away you are. Don’t worry, it won’t show your exact location; it will just give a rough indication of how far that person is.
Even if your match lives next door, it will usually say 1 mile or 2 kilometers away. So don’t stress about being stalked.
Personally, I don’t see why you would hide your distance anyway, it raises more questions about your match than anything.
I suggest you leave your distance visible, otherwise, your potential match might think you aren’t in her location and swipe left.

- Hide Age
Leaving out your age raises way more questions than hiding your distance. Leaving out either should be a no-no.
I have helped dudes as young as 18, and guys well into their 40’s. Don’t be ashamed of your age! There are women on Tinder that will like you, regardless of your age.
Control Who You See
This option gives you more power over who appears in your Discover feed. It allows you to change up the way in which profile cards will appear when you are swiping. There are two options, and I definitely recommend using one of them.
- Balanced Recommendations
Balanced is exactly what it says it is. I like to look at it as the “original” and it works on the same algorithm as always. This is the default setting and shows, in Tinder’s own words, “the most relevant people to you”.
- Recently Active
Selecting ‘Recently Active’ will show you all the latest users on Tinder. Nothing to do with who has matched you, how many likes they are getting, etc. Simply just who opened the app last.
I recommend staying with balanced recommendations for the most part, as Tinder’s algorithm is doing everything it can to serve you the people you are most likely to match with.
But experimenting with ‘recently active’ can mix up your Discover feed and you might see Tinder users you would otherwise have missed.
Control Who Sees You
This option should really only be used if you have some serious issues with privacy. A while back I took on board a client who came to me looking desperate and confused by the fact he wasn’t getting matches.
Judging from this guy’s hopeless energy, I was getting prepared to have to pull out some of my best coaching. When he told me he had been swiping hard for months, and only had about 12 matches, this confirmed that something was wrong.
But there wasn’t really anything really wrong with his profile… The few girls he had matched with actually seemed to naturally like him and with some tweaking, he could do really well.
And then I found it… the reason he wasn’t getting any matches was very clear. Let’s take a look at the following options to choose from and guess which of these two he selected.
- Standard
Everyone can see you, like normal.
- Incognito (Only People I’ve Liked)
Only people you have once upon a time swiped right on will be able to see you. I highly recommend against this, for the obvious reason that it means fewer matches.
This is where my client had screwed up, all because he accidentally selected this option. Double-check your Tinder Plus settings and stay away!
The one reason to use this feature is if you’re in a public-facing profession like teaching. Although you’ll definitely get fewer matches, you know nobody sees you without you letting them.
No Ads
Your swiping won’t get interrupted by annoying ads constantly popping up. That’s pretty much it.
What’s Not Included With Tinder Plus?
Tinder Plus is packed with useful features but it’s the lowest tier of paid Tinder. That means that for all you get, there are plenty of premium features that remain locked away.
So what’s not included with Tinder Plus? There are no free Super Likes or Boosts, and the “Likes You” tab remains locked so you can’t see who has swiped right on you. You also miss out on Tinder’s Top Picks.
Tinder Plus used to give you free Super Likes and a free Boost, but now the good folks of Tinder have deemed the peasants of the Tinder Plus tier unworthy of such features. Tinder Gold (and Tinder Platinum) unlock your Super Likes and Boosts.Personally, I think unlocking the “See Who Likes You” feature is valuable as it means you can do less swiping in the main Discover feed.
That can bump up your ELO, as well as bumping your confidence. And a tactical Tinder Boost can bring you more likes when you’re running low.
Tinder Plus Subscription Cost
Tinder uses dynamic pricing, which means the cost of Tinder Plus varies from user to user, and across geographical regions. While you might see Tinder Plus at a cost of $7.99 for a month, some users on Reddit are reporting that it’s $12.99 per week.
We all know about ageism in the workplace, but is Tinder ageist? Well, for whatever reason Tinder has decided to change the cost depending on your age. If you are a younger user (below 28 years old) you will pay a little less, if you’re over 28, you’ll pay a little more.
I think Tinder Plus’s $12.99 per week price point is a sales tactic designed to encourage you to sign up for longer and paying for a month costs works out at $6.24/week. You’ll get a BIG discount if you pay for six months to one year.
How Much Is Tinder Plus For 12 Months?
Tinder Plus gets cheaper when you sign up for longer. If you love a bargain, then you may want to splash out on a year of Tinder Plus.
So how much is Tinder Plus for 12 months? A year of Tinder Plus will cost around $31.99, working out at just $2.67 per month.
It’s not going to make much of a splash when you drop that kind of money, and you’ll have the option throughout the year to upgrade to Tinder Gold, Platinum (or even Tinder Vault if it’s ever released) for an additional fee.
Is Tinder Plus Worth It?
Now that you know all the features, the question still remains, is it worth it? It really does depend on you personally.
So is Tinder Plus worth it? I think so. Of course, there are all the great features that you can utilize, but for me, the biggest reason is that because you are now a paying user of Tinder, it will reward you.
I have seen firsthand a lift in the number of matches someone gets purely from upgrading to Tinder Plus and Gold. This is because the Tinder algorithm is trying to work in your favor, mainly so you keep spending money.
So for all the above reasons and this lift in matches, I personally believe Tinder Plus to be worth it if it’s offered at an affordable price point. But only if you’ve got a snappy profile and great Tinder pictures already.

- More control over your Tinder swiping experience.
- You’ll get better quality matches.
- Passport is great for traveling.
- No annoying ads in your Discover feed.
- Tinder rewards its paying customers – so you’ll get more matches.
Tinder Plus Cons:
- Unlimited swiping can worsen your Tinder experience.
- It’s getting increasingly expensive.
- No free Super Likes or Boost.
Personally, I think Tinder Plus is definitely worth it if you’re going to make use of the profile controls and Passport feature. If you’re traveling, Tinder Passport can help you make connections around the world while Control Who Sees You gives you incognito swiping.
If you’re drawn to unlimited swipes and rewinds, maybe Tinder Plus isn’t worth it. Swiping too much on Tinder, especially if you’re giving everyone a right swipe to try and up your chances, is just going to damage your ELO. Slow down and you won’t need more swipes or rewinds – and you’ll quickly get better results with the free version of Tinder

Check the current pricing in your country and ask yourself if you think dishing out that much per month is worth it. When choosing, remember that it might help you meet the perfect match or the girl of your dreams.
