What Are The 3 Tinder Membership Tiers?
In the famous words of Kanye West (don’t cancel me!): “I ain’t saying she’s a gold digger, but she ain’t messing with no Tinder Plus user.”
Tinder Premium Subscriptions come in three distinct tiers – Plus, Gold, and Platinum. As you progress, each level includes all the previous tier’s features and a few more.
That means if you want to have every feature on Tinder, you’ll have to have the highest tier, Platinum.
However, if you just want as many new features for the cheapest possible subscription, you need either Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold.
Read on to see all these subscription plans compared, and I’ll tell you how to get the most out of Tinder.
Tinder Gold vs Tinder Platinum
Sure, Tinder Plus unlocks features like Passport, Rewind, and Unlimited Likes. But mainly, I think Tinder Plus helps you do more swiping, which won’t necessarily get you more matches.
The best Tinder features are behind the golden gates. Here’s your quick guide to Tinder Gold and Platinum Features.
The only difference between Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum is that Platinum gives you prioritized likes and allows you to message before matching.
Until we see Tinder Vault released, the Platinum tier is Tinder’s ultimate package giving you access to everything that can be done within the app.
Tinder’s subscription plan is fairly straightforward. The more you pay, the more you get.

How Much Do Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum Cost?
If you want to gain extra features on Tinder, you’ll have to commit to throwing down some cash.
So how much do Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum cost? The price varies depending on your age and location, but you can expect a month of Gold or Platinum to cost between $24.99 and $49.99. If you pay for six months or a year, you’ll get a big discount.
Tinder uses dynamic pricing, which means their algorithm sets the price for you based on your demographics. It might seem unfair, but it means you could be paying more for Tinder Gold than your next-door neighbor!
And each subscription package on Tinder comes in a few forms. You can pay for a week, a month, six months, or a year. The longer you subscribe, the cheaper your subscription becomes.
Due to this, I would recommend that if you’re serious about committing, either try a one-month payment, and then go for six, or just go straight for the six-month price.
Although the full-year subscription is cheaper, that’s a very long time to commit to using Tinder! Hopefully, it should only take a few months for you to find someone to delete the app for.
Tinder Gold Pricing
The prices for a Tinder Gold Subscription are as follows. For one month, you’ll be spending $29.99. For a six-month subscription, you can pay $112.99, which works out at $18.83 a month.
Finally, if you want to go all the way, a twelve-month subscription will cost you $149.99, which is $12.50 a month.
Pricing | Total Cost | Monthly Cost |
---|---|---|
Gold | ||
1 Month | $29.99 | $29.99 |
6 Months | $112.99 | $18.83 |
12 Months | $149.99 | $12.50 |
As you can see, the change in monthly rate from a one-month subscription to a six-month subscription saves you a lot of money.
However, moving from six to twelve months only saves around $1.50 a week. That’s why I would suggest the six-month package as your best bet.
Tinder Platinum Pricing
Moving on to Tinder Platinum, the prices scale a little bit higher. For one month, you’ll be paying $32.94. The six and twelve months are similarly quite expensive, costing $22.34 and $14.89 per month, respectively.
When it comes to Platinum, you actually save a lot more by going for the 12-month option.
Pricing | Total Cost | Monthly Cost |
---|---|---|
Platinum | ||
1 Month | $32.94 | $32.94 |
6 Months | $134.04 | $22.34 |
12 Months | $178.68 | $14.89 |
Out of Gold and Premium, when considering which payment plan to select, I would say the 6-month for Gold and 12-Month for Platinum.
But of course, this totally depends on your budget and how much money you want to commit.

Tinder Gold and Platinum features let you do a whole lot more with the app, in particular the ability to find out who likes you without a deep dive into the swipe deck. And With Platinum, you’ll also get access to two new features: Message Before Matching and Priority Likes.
Tinder Gold Features
Tinder Gold gives you all of the features of Tinder Plus:
- Unlimited Likes,
- Rewinds,
- Passport,
- Control Your Profile,
- Control Who Sees You (Incognito Mode),
- Control Who You See.
On top of that, Tinder Gold includes:
- See Who Likes You,
- Top Picks,
- 5 Free Super Likes (per week),
- 1 Free Boost (per month).
I’ll take you through what each of these features does, showing you how and why they could help your Tinder game out.
More Control
Tinder Gold unlocks three features that give you more control over your Tinder experience.
Control Your Profile lets you hide your age and distance from other users.
Control Who Sees You lets you go incognito. You’re only discoverable by people who you like, and won’t show up in Discover for people you haven’t swiped on.
Control Who You See lets you toggle between ‘Balanced Recommendations’, letting Tinder’s regular algorithm do its work, and “Recently Active’ which only shows you users who have been online recently. While I recommend sticking with Balanced Recommendations, checking out ‘Recently Active’ will show you new people if you feel your Discover feed has been getting stale as it switches up what the algorithm shows you.
See Who Likes You
At the top of your messages tab, there will be a little option to see everyone who swiped right on you. This means that you can see everyone’s profiles that have put themselves forward to match with you.
One of the great things about this feature is it helps build confidence. Knowing there are people out there liking you is a great feeling.
This feature takes away an element of uncertainty, showing you exactly which profiles have liked you. It also helps demonstrate how many people are on Tinder, with likes coming in showing that your profile is out there and getting seen by others.
Although, as features go, this one is on the lower end of the useful scale.
Unlimited Likes
To prevent people from endlessly swiping right and trying to match with everyone, Tinder limits the number of people you can like in a day to between 25 and 100. It varies per user, but due to this people hit a wall of likes, not being able to swipe anymore.
Tinder Gold and Platinum remove this feature, allowing you to swipe on as many people as you want.
This is great as it means you can devote as much time as you want to the app, swiping to your heart’s content. Of course, the more swiping you do, the higher chance you have of matching with someone!
Rewind
Rewind is one of the most useful tools on Tinder. We’ve all had that heartbreaking moment when you swipe past someone you actually really liked the look of. Never again!
Tinder Rewind allows you to move back one action, recovering a profile that you just swiped on. Rewind can also be applied to other features, like getting back a Super Like.
If you have clumsy fingers and are prone to making mistakes, Rewind is a great tool for you.
Passport
Tinder Passport lets you set your location to somewhere else in the world. Be that the next city over or halfway around the world – it’s up to you.
Once you set your location, you’ll be able to swipe through people living in that area. Making matches away, even though you’re still technically at home is great if you have a trip coming up.
On top of this, you’ll also receive a New Person boost in that area. This means that your profile is more likely to come up for those in that area.
Passport is fantastic as it lets you connect with other people in different areas, while also meaning you get your profile out to more people!
Boost
Boost is a service that you can use once a month, and results in Tinder showing your profile with up to 10x the frequency.
This seriously ups the number of people you’ll be matching with. Boost allows you to be seen by everyone in your local area in a short amount of time.
It only lasts for 30 minutes, but that is ample time for your profile to be put at the front of the queue. Think about how quickly you can swipe through profiles!
30 minutes is actually quite a lot considering it takes only a fraction of a second to swipe on a profile.
Boost also has a great feature of being used in tandem with Passport. If you’re going on holiday or will be out of town for work, use a Passport to travel ahead to your destination.
From there, you’ll be able to Boost in that area. All the locals will see you, letting you contact people that you can meet up with when you arrive. This saves a lot of time!
Although it can only be used once a month, Boost is a fantastic resource if you’re looking to increase your potential matches. Just make sure you are setting Boost off at the right time.
No Ads
If you’re ever swiping and come across a pair of sunglasses, you’ve probably stumbled onto an ad. Tinder embeds ads into the swiping process, letting you skip past them if needed.
If you hate the constant ads that come up as you swipe, upgrading to Gold or Platinum will sort that problem for you.
Let’s face it, ads are annoying! This is a feature I’m pleased they have included.
Top Picks
Top Picks is the least Tinder-y thing about Tinder. In fact, there isn’t any swiping involved at all. Well, kind of.
Based on who you swipe on, Tinder will build up a general idea of what sort of person you’re looking for.
Tinder’s algorithm will then recommend you 4-10 profiles every 24 hours, giving you some relief from the endless swiping.
Each of these picks is assigned a title like ‘Adventurer’, ‘Creative’, or ‘Musician’ based on what interests they express in their profile.
Top Picks is a great feature, allowing you to see people’s profiles with ease. If you don’t want to waste time swiping, this feature will work a charm. Once you upgrade, you can find Top Picks on Tinder by hitting the gold or platinum flame icon on your Discovery screen.
Super Likes
Super Like is a like on steroids. After Super Liking someone, they’ll know you’ve already liked them as your profile will have a blue tinge.
This puts the power entirely in their hands. They know you’ll be a match, so it’s up to them to decide.
A Super Like increases the chance of someone swiping right on you by 300%, according to Tinder’s own stats. And it makes people spend a little more time on your profile, reading your carefully crafted bio.
You’re only allowed 5 of these Super Likes per week, so make sure you only use them on your favorite profiles.
Tinder Platinum Features
All of the above features will be available for you to use if you subscribe to Tinder Platinum. An added bonus to a Tinder Platinum subscription is that you’ll gain further access to two extremely premium features:
- Message Before Matching,
- Priority Likes.
Message Before Matching
On top of sending a Super Like, you’ll now be able to attach a short message. You’ve got up to 140 characters to play around with, so get creative.
After you Super Like someone, your Tinder photos will be outlined in blue when they reach your profile. Message Before Matching allows you to type a short message that will also be shown to your match.
Use this text to pay a compliment or let them know why you liked their profile. If they’re on the fence about your profile, something to make them smile could swing them, and a unique and offbeat opener will make you stand out, and seal the right swipe.
I’ve found that someone Super Liking you is already a great compliment. However, including a message goes one step further, letting a potential match really see that you’re interested in them.
One of the best things about Tinder is the huge user base. However, that also means you’ve got a lot of competition. Message Before Matching puts you above the rest, showing your profile in a favorable light while also letting you make a great first impression.
Out of the Platinum features, this is the one I think is more useful.
Priority Likes
Priority Likes put your profile ahead of others, meaning you’re likely to get more swipes and matches.
Some people really don’t want to spend all day swiping, only spending a few minutes on the app here and there.
Priority Likes means you’ll be placed towards the front of the queue, being seen by even those only on the app for a few minutes.
Every person that sees your profile is another possible right swipe, meaning this feature is great if you want to increase your matches.
What Are The Advantages Of Tinder Platinum?
With over 50 million users, sometimes it’s hard to get noticed on Tinder. Sure, you’ve taken a series of hilarious and charming Tinder profile pictures, but what else can you do to stand out? That’s where Platinum comes in.
So what are the advantages of Tinder Platinum? Prioritized likes will ensure you’re shown to more Tinder users than before and messaging before matching helps you stand out. If you’re in a busy, urban area then these can make a big difference to your chances.
Both Priority Likes and Message Before Matching are designed to increase the number of matches you get every day.
While Priority Likes does this passively, exposing you to more people, Message Before Matching takes an active approach. When you use this feature, you’ll grab someone’s attention to a greater extent.
Both of these features work well together but aren’t exactly game-changers. Considering how much more expensive Platinum is, Gold really does cover most of your bases.
Does Tinder Platinum Help You Get Matches?
That said, if you want all the features of Tinder and the best possible chance of matching, Platinum stands out. If you’re considering putting down cold, hard cash, there’s one question that needs to be answered.
Does Tinder Platinum help you get more matches? Yes. The Tinder Platinum feature Priority Likes will ensure that people you like see your profile and will definitely lead to more matches.
And if you up your Tinder messaging game, then Messaging Before Matching is another hugely useful tool to get you more matches on Tinder.
The main downside of Tinder Platinum is the cost. Tinder Gold is realistically more affordable for most people.
How Do I Upgrade My Tinder Account?
As you can probably tell from all the above features, Tinder wants to give their paid users as many features as possible.
If you like what you see and are ready to upgrade, they make it easy for you. Here’s how to upgrade your Tinder account in six easy steps:
- Open up the Tinder app.
- Click your profile icon, at the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Click the gear symbol for Settings, at the top right corner.
- Tap ‘Tinder Plus/Gold/Platinum’
- Tap Continue
- Enter a payment method and select Submit.
Of course, which package you select will depend on which features you want!
And you can also purchase Tinder upgrades during your swiping experience. For example, hitting the Rewind button as a free user will prompt the purchase screen for Tinder Gold.
How Do I Cancel My Tinder Subscription?
Suddenly got cold feet? Or maybe you’ve found the one and are looking to delete your app?
If you’ve tried out a Tinder subscription and worked out it’s not for you, don’t worry. Canceling only takes a few steps, you’ll be back to a regular account in no time.
Depending on which device you use Tinder on, there is a slightly different method of canceling.
Cancelling Tinder Subscription on iOS
If you’re a big Apple head, here’s how to cancel Tinder payments.
- Open up your iPhone settings,
- Tap your name,
- Tap subscriptions, and all of your current subscriptions will come up,
- Navigate to Tinder,
- Click Cancel Subscription.
That’s it, your recurring payment will be terminated.
Cancelling Tinder Subscriptions on Android
If you’re using Android, here’s how to cancel Tinder Platinum, Gold, or Plus.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap the Profile icon in the top right corner.
- Hit Payments and Subscriptions.
- Hit Subscriptions
- Navigate to Tinder and tap to open
- Hit ‘Cancel subscription’.
Finally, if you’re only using Tinder online, head to the website. Once it’s booted up, click on your profile, then ‘Manage Account’. From there, simply click ‘Disable Auto-Renew’ or ‘Cancel’ – either one of these options will put a stop to any more payments.
Some applications make it really difficult to get out of any payment contracts you use.
Tinder is not one of these companies, with each cancellation option taking no more than a few minutes.
This is a huge relief. There’s nothing worse than getting charged for something you no longer want, or when your new girlfriend finds the Tinder Platinum charge recurring on your credit card!
Which Is Better Out Of Tinder Gold And Tinder Platinum?
So which subscription is best for Tinder? At the end of the day, Tinder is an app designed to make money and if you’re a paying user at any tier they’re going to help you out
Whether that’s Tinder Gold or Tinder Platinum, you’ll still have a much higher chance of matching with someone you like.
So which is better out of Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum? If you’re going to pick between the two, I would suggest you choose Tinder Gold. Tinder Gold has the perfect balance between affordability and access to new features.
Although quite a bit more expensive, Platinum only gives you two extra features. While both are cool features, they’re definitely not essential to getting more matches on Tinder.
With Gold, the new features, like Unlimited Likes and Top Picks, make sure you’ll be seen by others a lot more.
It seems to make your money go a little further. That said, when I reviewed the Top Dating Apps of 2023, there were definitely a few options that were of better value if you’re considering whether to pay for a dating app or not.
Final Word
Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum unlock some pretty serious features, but they come at a cost. Personally, I think that Tinder Gold is better value for money and the features you get will make the biggest difference to your Tinder experience.
But of course, none of this matters if you have a weak profile, bad photos, and a cliched Tinder bio.
