Can You Rematch On Hinge? Here’s What Happens If You Accidentally Unmatched

If you’re using Hinge, there’s a good chance you’re looking for something serious. Unlike fast-swipe apps like Tinder and Bumble, Hinge is set up so you can take the time to read profiles before just swiping to the next one. The prompts are fun and give you a peek into the brains of your potential matches.

It’s great how profiles are more personalized and in-depth on Hinge than on other apps. You to comment or engage on specific profile sections, including pictures and prompts, making it easier to start a conversation (and we can all use a little help in this category).

Although Hinge makes an effort to stop swipe culture in their app, there is always a chance you might lose a match. This could be due to accidentally disliking a profile or unmatching a profile that you’ve already matched with.

If you didn’t have the chance to read through the profile properly, you might want to go back and take a better look. Or maybe you unmatched with someone, either intentionally or accidentally, and want a second chance to get to know them better.

So, can you rematch on Hinge? And if so, how can you find them again?

How to find someone on Hinge again

You’ve been chatting with Sarah for weeks now on Hinge, and it seems to be going pretty well. You’re trying to organize the perfect date and have some great ideas in mind, but you haven’t been able to line up a time that works for you both.

As you’re clicking through the app, you accidentally unmatch Sarah. You don’t know her last name, you didn’t exchange numbers, and you don’t have her on Instagram. Whoops! So, how are you going to find her again? How can you rematch on Hinge?

Finding Sarah again is unfortunately not an easy process. Once you’ve unmatched someone, you won’t be shown them again. There is no way to search for someone or their name on Hinge. So, no, you technically cannot find someone on Hinge again once you’ve unmatched. But there is a way around this.

If you delete your account entirely and set up a new one, you can begin working your way through profiles and might be lucky enough to come across Sarah again. Obviously if you live in a huge city, then the chances of you finding her again will be lower. But, if you’re in a small community, then there’s a good chance of coming across the same profiles again.

Also, if you accidentally dislike someone’s profile, you can find them on Hinge again if you act straight away. You can get back to the most recent profile by either shaking your phone or clicking on the “undo” button in the upper right corner of the app.

It’s important to keep in mind that this will only work on the most recent profile that you disliked. If you have already passed a few profiles and want to find someone you disliked again, you won’t be able to do so.

How to know if someone deleted their Hinge account

You’re talking to someone on Hinge, and it seems to be going well when all of a sudden, they disappear entirely. What gives? Did they intentionally unmatch you? Or did they just delete their Hinge account?

While we would all like to assume that our match just deleted their account, there is no real way to identify that. Hinge does not notify you if one of your matches deletes their account. Instead, you will just notice that the match and your conversation have disappeared entirely.

When someone deletes their Hinge account, it will deauthorize all their account content, photos, messages, and profile information. Their profile will no longer be visible in “Discover,” and they will disappear from the feeds of anyone they have already matched with.

If you were chatting to a match and suddenly, it’s gone, then they have either unmatched you or deleted their account. But there is no way to find out which reason it is. Let’s just assume they met their perfect match and deleted their account. It’s not you; it’s them.

Accidentally unmatched on Hinge

So, you got a bit click-happy and accidentally unmatched someone on Hinge. And it was going so well, too! It’s not uncommon to unmatch from someone by mistake on Hinge.

If you’re clicking through profile settings on a match, you may end up unmatching unintentionally which means you won’t be able to continue talking to them. If you didn’t get their phone number or an alternative method of contact, then you might be out of luck.

Unmatching on Hinge, whether it was an accident or not, is a permanent action. Even if you contact Hinge support, they are unable to restore the match manually. That’s why it’s crucial to avoid being click-happy when you’re using Hinge. You might have a great connection with someone, but if you accidentally unmatch them, then they will be left wondering what happened.

If you accidentally unmatch someone your only real option is to open a new account and start all over again. While this isn’t ideal, it will give you a chance to come across their profile again and rematch with them.

Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean they will want to rematch with you. After all, they might be annoyed that you unmatched with them in the first place, even if it was an accident since they will have no way of knowing that.

You can sign up for Hinge using either your phone number or your Facebook account, so if you don’t want to lose your current account entirely, you can always make a second one to try to find someone on Hinge again by using a different sign-up method.
